Snickers on a trip to India

Hah. Was feeling down today - I'm not sure if I've messed up my Maths test again - so got into chocolate and movie.

Snickers. Yum. The Darjeeling Limited. Yum.

Yep, THAT movie directed by Wes Anderson, starring Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman. It had this indie-like feel throughout (is it going to be released here anyway? :P) and even the soundtrack used was mostly offbeat songs - no orchestra, just oldie folky songs and a bit of Indian instrumental.

Right, the plot. Three brothers meet up in India, on a trip on the fictional train, The Darjeeling Limited. They want to be brothers again, having not talked to each other for a year, since their father's funeral. Their mother's missing. They're all different. Guess what happens next!

Really quirky story - at times darkly comic, or wry, or even dramatic and melancholy. No slapstick or toilet humor, thank you very much; nobody laughs much in the movie, even. But it's all the more funnier, and I was thankful that I decided to watch it alone. I mean, seriously...people tend to get annoyed when I start laughing too loud during movies. My family does, anyway.

The first part of the film was really Hotel Chevalier, a short film Anderson did earlier before he filmed Darjeeling. It was meant to be a stand-alone, but Anderson later incorporated it into the main movie. The first part's weird, doesn't say much...it all comes together in the main part though, so no problem. Oh and by the way, Hotel Chevalier has Natalie Portman's first nude scene - nothing graphic though. The nudity didn't change much of the story, methinks. Not that there was much story to begin with - Portman's character summed up my thoughts during the short film with one line: "What the fuck is going on?" Yes, indeed.

Anyway. It's late. Gotta go.
