Time time time

I can't believe it happened AGAIN.

Two Discworld books purchased earlier this week, on Tuesday.

Two Discworld books completed by Sunday.

What am I going to do with next week?

Read Susanna Clarke's The Ladies of Grace Adieu, of course.

And go abso-wonderful-lutely fangirl over Jonathan Strange.

Hmmpf. Yuvha's just sent me 50 nudges in a row - she says it's 50, but I didn't count 'em - can you do that? I mean, really do that? How come mine wan says "You may not send a nudge that often" wan?

Right. Discworld!

Wintersmith

Didn't like it as much as A Hat Full of Sky. But there are so many other things to like, like:

1. Horace!

Horace is -

a. blue
b. eats butter, mice and tried to eat Big Yan
c. Daft Wullie's best buddy
d. a potential homicidal and Feegle-sidal...person
e. an honorary Nac Mac Feegle - got the tartan kilt and everything, see?
f. a Lancre Blue
g. a cheese

He tried to sing Row Row Row Your Boat with the Feegles. (They went into the Underworld and went across the River Styx singing that song...they are the Feegles, no?) But what came out was Mnammnammnamnam...

No mouth, but it's a mystery how he eats. And he eats butter - as Tiffany says, it's practically cannibalism.

2. Roland

a. glasses - nerd alert!
b. more mature
c. Tiffany's admirer
d. likes books!
e. hero in a minute, yes?

3. Tiffany Aching! is -

a. older
b. having crushes
c. being pursued by the Wintersmith
d. and is in denial about being flattered by guys
e. learns that Nanny Ogg has a monumentally dirty mind
f. and has no qualms in letting the elder witches know that they don't have to give her a talk on sex because she knows
g. discovering what she can do on her own and with magic

4. Granny Weatherwax

a. is sarcastic
b. acidic
c. reserved
d. chews the head off your neck without saying anything
e. has taken in a kitten

5. You

a. is Granny Weatherwax's kitten - she doesn't do fancy apparently, and You is as good a name as any other, no?
b. fought off Greebo - Nanny Ogg's legendary cat who will: a) kill, b) fight or c) rape anything with four legs
c. is a white little kitten who goes meep adorably

6. Wintersmith

a. has no idea of how humans behave
b. creepy
c. cool - not "slightly cold", as Tiffany thinks, but...cool :)
d. is madly in love with Tiffany
e. expresses his love in the most spectacular ways - ice roses, snowflakes and icebergs. Cool...

7. Nanny Ogg is

a. jolly
b. dirty
c. happy
d. Nanny Ogg

8. Daft Wullie is

a. daft
b. mad
c. best friends with Horace
d. did I say daft?

Righto, moving on!

Thief of Time

Things I liked:

1. Susan Sto Helit

2. Lobsang Ludd

3. Lu-Tze! (Rule One: "Do not act incautiously when confronting a little bald wrinkly smiling man!")

Rocks my socks.

Lu-Tze: "Got any food left?"
Lobsang: "No. We finished it last night. Er... I heard tell that really advanced monks can live on the, er, life force in the actual air itself..."
Lu-Tze: "Only on the planet Sausage, I expect."

4. Death

5. Ronnie Soak! Ahahahha...talk about new jobs.

6. Igor (Yeth Marthter!)

7. Time has a son?!

8. Wen's sayings...seriously, the guy rocks

In the Second Scroll of Wen the Eternally Surprised, a story is written concerning one day when the apprentice Clodpool, in a rebellious mood, approached Wen and spake thusly:

"Master, what is the difference between a humanistic, monastic system of belief in which wisdom in sought by means of an apparently nonsensical system of questions and answers, and a lot of mystic gibberish made up on the spur of the moment?"

Wen considered this for some time, and at last said: "A fish!"

And Clodpool went away, satisfied.

9. Footnotes, of course!

A chocolate you did not want to eat does not count as chocolate. This discovery is from the same branch of culinary physics that determined that food eaten while walking along contains no calories.

I LOVE this idea. Anyone else agrees? 80

10. Death!

11. Qu...oh. Q. Yeah right, like we didn't spot that spoof, Mr. Pratchett!

12. And the questions...man, loved them...and like this!

Lobsang: "The poet Hoha once dreamed he was a butterfly, and then he awoke and said, 'Am I a man who dreamed he was a butterfly, or am I a butterfly dreaming he is a man?'"
Susan: "Really? ... How did he write his poems?"
Lobsang: "With a brush, of course."
Susan: "He didn't flap around making information-rich patterns in the air or laying eggs on cabbage leaves?"

And thus we realise that Hoha was a man.

Solves the dude's dilemma, no?

And it was an actual guy who asked the question samore...oh well. Chuangtzu...or any other names that he goes by.

Discworld's a fantasy world?

Yeah right!

She smiled. "Look on the bright side," she added. "We're young, we've got all the time in the world..." She swung the wrench onto her shoulder. "Let's go clubbing."

Clubbing...a whole new interpretation.

If you had to ask the price of W&B's chocolates, you couldn't afford them. And if you'd tasted one and still couldn't afford them, you'd save and scrimp and rob and sell elderly members of your family for just one more of those mouthfuls that fell in love with your tongue and turned your soul to whipped cream.

One of life's little happinesses...the great, all-powerful Chocolate.

Should have an anthropomorphic personification of its own, seriously.
