Lollipops
Think about it - have you wondered how lollipops came about? Have you given much thought about how this sweet little kiddy treat was developed and how many varieties there are in the market?
It's that Mika song, Lollipops, that got me thinking. I mean, you can get lollipops almost anywhere, at only 60 cents or more. And then you can suck it for nearly an hour, and in some brands, you can use the sticky, saliva-covered stick as a flute or whistle after your lollipop's sucked to death. Pretty neat sweet, and not as messy as Choki-Choki too. Or chocolate. Or not as boring as mint sweets like Menthos (which oddly, I tend to associate with kind old grandmothers. Or maybe it's only my grandmother. Hmph.). Have you eaten that buttery sweet called Werther? Funny, I thought. Obviously they don't have any relation to The Sorrows of Young Werther; well at least I hope not...
Read here for a brief history of lollipops.
And now, a lollipop poem.
Lollipop poem (n): A poem written impromptu in a bad mood while trying to convince myself that this is helping me to feel better.
It did make me feel better this time.
Map of Your Head
Ridges and fjords and hills
Mountains, Elf-doms and little rills
Pretty Orcs and decadent wizards
Found the map; it's your head.
Slipped into an abyss
Morgoth and Sauron partying
Mount Doom's a grill; Frodo's fried
Sam's king of Mordor
(Fifty kids - oh!)
Girdle of Melian, made by Thingol
(Shh, that's obscene)
Legolas and Boromir in Mirkwood
Whatcha doin'; don't ask yo!
Merry stole Rosie Cotton
Sam's so happy, out of slavery
Pippin's king of the Bunnies
His is the Beautiful Burrow, lotsa honeybees.
Gandalf's so gay, he's high
Saruman's a lady in disguise
Grima's a stand-up comedian
Who's Ellen DeGeneres?
Mika's the Prime Minstrel
In Theoden's Golden Halls
Eowyn's Queen of Gondor; Faramir's the new Goldenballs
Aragorn's kicking himself
(Arwen's 2000 years old; wake up man!)
The map of, map of -
The wonderful, fascinating
Absolutely LSD, psychedelic
Fanatic, moronic, fantastic
Map of, map of
the map of, the map of
the only map of, the MAP OF
MAP OF YOUR HEAD!
Well no, this has nothing to do with the fact that Muse's Map of Your Head from the Hullabaloo CD is one of my favourite songs right now. The lyrics are nothing like my poem, by the way. Excellent song, as always.
Marginally better.
