You
Listen to: Rambling Man - Laura Marling
You know how it is, when there is so much time to think and to speculate, how far your thoughts run away from you.
You know how it is, when the weather is continually stuck on gloomy, and it keeps snowing and snowing.
You know how it is, when you walk on the road in the late evening with the ground glittering with ice and snow, with the orange light of the street lamps reflecting off the drifts of untouched snow, and the muffled cold stillness of everything with snowflakes falling on your face and tongue - this is beautiful, and you're not here.
You know how it is, when the only option is to let go - of control, of certainty, of consistency - and to accept that whatever you do, you won't always do it for me.
You know how it is, late nights talking and trying to see the other's point of view, trying to get the other to see your point of view, and everything and nothing hangs in the balance: Why do we do this to ourselves?
You know how it is, missing someone and not able to do anything about it: What do you do?
You know how it is, when being happy means continually telling yourself that you are happy: How do you do this?
You know how it is, when familiar places feel empty, when what should be there cannot be there anymore: Where do you go?
You know how it is, between choosing and staying with what is familiar and important to you: Which do you choose?
You know how it is, when the little details bring back these memories, and you're constantly reminded of absences and lost time: When do you let go?
You know how it is, but you don't want to talk about it.
I wrote this, because I could.
